Almost all Autodesk products are free for education. Free education subscription is granted for one year, then it can be renewed if you are still eligible.
To access you subscription you need to follow these steps:
- Create a TMU email linked Autodesk account
- Create an education profile for the created Autodesk account
- Confirm your eligibility for educational access
- In one year, reconfirm your eligibility for another year
If you need to renew your subscription, please go to Step 4 at the end of the article.
Step 1. Create a TMU email linked Autodesk account
If you have already created an Autodesk account linked to your TMU email, please skip to Step 2. It does not matter on what Autodesk portal you've created the account - an Autodesk account works for all Autodesk portals including Autodesk Education portal.
Otherwise go to the Autodesk Education portal https://www.autodesk.com/education/home and click Sign-In in the right top corner:
Click "CREATE ACCOUNT" on the Sign In screen and follow the account creation steps.
Step 2. Create an education profile for your TMU email linked Autodesk account
To set up your Autodesk Education profile and get access to the Autodesk products, go to the Autodesk Education portal https://www.autodesk.com/education/home and click on the 'Get products'.
On the new page click on 'Get started'
You will be prompted to sign in using your existing Autodesk credentials. Sign in using your TMU email linked Autodesk account
Once you have entered your Autodesk sign in credentials, you will be asked to 'Set up your Education profile' by filling in the tabs as shown in the pictures below:
Make sure to select from the drop-down list under 'Name of educational institution.' To engage the drop-down you must start typing 'Toronto Metropolitan University' and a list will appear under the bar. Select 'Toronto Metropolitan University' from the list.
When you're finished filling in your information click 'Next.' You will see the screen below stating that your account is set. Click 'Continue'
Step 3. Confirm your eligibility for educational access
After your Educational profile is created, you still must confirm your eligibility for free education subscription.
If you've just created your Education profile, you will be greeted with the message below. Otherwise you will need to sign in on the the Autodesk Education portal https://www.autodesk.com/education/home to see a similar message at the top of the webpage.
Click on 'Get started.' to proceed to a verification page shown below:
After confirming your information you will be asked to verify your eligibility by signing into your TMU account. Click on 'Confirm eligibility with your educational institution single sign-on'
A new tab will open where you will be prompted to sign-in into your torontomu.ca account. Make sure you use your TMU sign-in credentials.
When you sign-in the following loading screen will appear in a new tab.
Important! Do not wait for this screen to show that verification is completed - the confirmation will be shown on the previous tab. Wait for about a minute and then go back to the open Autodesk Education portal tab in your browser.
After successfully verifying your TMU credentials the screen below will appear in the main Autodesk tab. You may close the loading screen from the new tab (shown above) once you have seen the 'You're Confirmed!' message.
Click on 'Get Autodesk software' to close this pop-up and your home screen should now greet you at the top of the page with a message similar to the one shown below:
Scroll down on this page to see all the products available. Click on 'Get Product' to Install or Download a certain product.
Step 4. Confirm your eligibility for another year before or after your one-year education subscription expires
You will need to confirm your eligibility for education subscription every year. One month before the expiration of your education subscription you will receive an email from Autodesk with a link to renew the subscription. If you've missed the email notification, it is not a problem - you can renew your education subscription on the Autodesk Education portal before or after it expires.
Verification of your education status can be TMU Single Sign-On based - in this case just follow instructions in Step 3.
Sometimes, an additional step is required by Autodesk as proof that you are still enrolled in, or employed by Toronto Metropolitan University. In this case you have to present additional documentation, you should still follow the instructions in Step 3, however, you will not receive the 'You're Confirmed' message. Instead, you will receive an email from the Autodesk Education Community and your Autodesk Education product download webpage will display the message below:
Click on 'Get started' or follow the on-screen instructions to submit the required document.
Supported file types: JPEG, PDF, PNG, GIF.
After submitting a valid document you will receive an email granting you educational access and you will see the 'You're Confirmed!' message next time you sign into the Autodesk Education portal.
