Software for students (June 2024)

Demand for department lab workstations can be quite high during certain times of the year. That’s why we recommend that students install the software they need on their own personal computers. A comprehensive list of free and discounted applications appropriate for use in architectural course work is provided below. The most frequently used applications are highlighted in grey.

Microsoft Project

Architectural Science students and faculty can install many Microsoft products on their computers, including Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Visio, Microsoft Visual Studio and some other products. To see all the products and to download/install them, sign in to Microsoft Azure DevTools portal with your @torontomu.ca email address. Read this article for step-by-step instructions.

Adobe Creative Cloud including

1st, 2nd, and 3rd year undergraduate students and first year Master of Architecture students receive an annual Adobe Creative Cloud subscription through their ancillary fees. Students from other years/programs and co-op students can participate in a group deal in September to get an annual subscription with a significant discount. Look for an email in late August-early September and act quickly - number of subscriptions is limited.

Twinmotion is an alternative to Enscape recommended for DAS students. It is free for education. Follow this article to install it on your computer.

Bluebeam Revu license is free for students and educators. Request your license at https://www.bluebeam.com/communities/education

Esri ArcGIS

Industry standard GIS (Geographic Information System) software

All Arch Science students can install ArcGIS on their personal computers. Please read this article for instructions.

ArcGIS will allow you to convert GIS files into CAD compatible formats, use ArcGIS online databases for site analysis, and to create/edit maps.
